This study aims to understand the perception of Ambato businessmen about public management in the commercial development of their businesses. The methodology applied the bibliographic modality with a quantitative approach with explanatory, cross-sectional and descriptive scope. A questionnaire of 43 questions was designed and applied to 173 businessmen associated with the Chamber of Commerce of Ambato to evaluate their perception. In the data collection instrument, the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test is applied as a measure of suitability for factor analysis obtaining (0.775) and Bartlett's sphericity test indicates that the variables are related (0.00) and reliability through Cronbach's alpha (0.819). The results allow us to accept the alternative hypothesis to indicate that public management is the axis of commercial development in the city of Ambato. The data indicate that businessmen are concentrated in a mature age and have academic training. They have a negative opinion of the economic policy implemented by the current government and this is evident in the slow recovery and economic and financial instability of their companies. In addition, they consider that national, provincial and local public management does not encourage production in the country and they estimate that corruption in public institutions could be a triggering element in business performance. Their retrospective can be summarized as an increase in sales, maintenance of their stock; an increase in prices due to the rise in prices of their inputs; however, they have maintained their staff of collaborators; and their perspective is focused on the return of capital in the short term, implementing strategies to promote this process and a commitment to retain the majority of their business partners.
