Abstract

The study frames the analysis of the development of executive and divided attention and cognitive flexibility through the children's story. The scope of the research is exploratory-descriptive, in view of deepening the information related to the two study variables, the approach used is quantitative and the data collection is based on the characteristics, particularities and behaviors of the investigated population, the techniques and instruments used allowed measuring the level of attention and concentration in the children of the initial level II through the application of the "Trail Making Test", on the other hand, the questionnaire with Likert scale directed to teachers of the level allowed knowing the forms of use of the children's story. After the statistical analysis, the alternative hypothesis was accepted in which the study population has an adequate development of attention and concentration. In spite of this, there is a greater dominance of divided attention over executive attention. This is due to factors such as lack of organization, planning and sequentiality that affect attention and concentration, however, the ability to perform two tasks at the same time is high, as the rate of distraction with external stimuli is reduced to the extent of the correct use of playful methods and narrative guidelines used by the teacher, in this sense, the children's story is the teaching strategy that favors the development of attention and concentration, in addition to the significant contribution it makes on cognitive development in children.
