Abstract

Assessing the impact of distance education on students' academic performance reveals a complex interplay between advantages and challenges. The studies reviewed highlight the flexibility of time and the accessibility of educational resources as key aspects that favor academic success in virtual environments, allowing students to manage their study time more efficiently and access high quality materials from any location. In addition, interaction with teachers and peers through technological tools promotes the exchange of ideas and collaboration, thus enriching the learning experience and contributing to better academic performance. However, significant challenges are identified, such as lack of intrinsic motivation, difficulties in maintaining discipline and concentration in virtual environments, and the need for greater autonomy in learning. These barriers require specific support strategies, such as online guidance programmes, interactive virtual environments and motivational techniques adapted to the digital context. In conclusion, distance education offers an effective alternative to learning, but it is essential to address its challenges to ensure the academic success of all students. By adopting a student-centered approach and using innovative educational technologies, it is possible to maximize the benefits of this educational modality and promote effective and meaningful online learning.
