Identifying the genetic resources of backyard animals and contributing to rural families is essential for several reasons. From a “food security” perspective, backyard animals provide an important food source for communities and provide the necessary nutrients to feed families. Effective control of animal genetic diversity is essential for food security, sustainable development, and improved livelihoods. The diversity of animal species corresponds to many important and fragile tasks, the protection of which is necessary for the subsistence and well-being of many individuals. In addition, the improvement and management of backyard systems can generate income that generally improves the quality of life through the sale of high-quality products (size, color, consistency, flavor) that are of interest to the local market.
