Resumen

El empleo de puzolanas naturales como sustitutos parciales del cemento Portland constituye una alternativa para reducir su consumo y favorecer la producción de concretos con menor impacto ambiental. El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar el desempeño mecánico de un concreto con resistencia especificada f’c = 210 kg/cm², elaborado con agregados de la cantera Megarok y ceniza volcánica del Cotacachi como sustituto parcial del cemento. Se desarrolló una investigación experimental de enfoque cuantitativo. Los materiales fueron caracterizados física y químicamente y las mezclas se dosificaron mediante el método ACI 211.1. Se evaluaron cuatro porcentajes de sustitución: 0 %, 10 %, 20 % y 30 %, utilizando 32 probetas cilíndricas de 10 × 20 cm ensayadas a compresión a los 7, 14, 28 y 56 días. La ceniza presentó un contenido combinado de SiO₂ + Al₂O₃ + Fe₂O₃ de 82,56 %, 0,11 % de SO₃ y 1,39 % de pérdida por ignición, valores compatibles con los criterios químicos evaluados para una puzolana natural Clase N. A los 28 días, las mezclas M0, M10, M20 y M30 alcanzaron resistencias de 218,08; 214,19; 153,91 y 107,90 kg/cm², respectivamente. La sustitución del 10 % mostró el desempeño más cercano al concreto patrón y superó la resistencia especificada, mientras que porcentajes superiores redujeron progresivamente la resistencia. Se concluye que, entre las proporciones estudiadas, el 10 % constituyó la alternativa técnicamente más favorable
