Así, las consideraciones primordiales se centran en el significado y significante, es decir, no van más allá del aspecto formal de la lengua. Mientras que, desde un criterio cognitivista (Langacker, 1987; Lakoff, 1987; Lakoff y Johnson, 1980; Cuenca y Hilferty, 1999) es un mecanismo de conexión a partir de nuestra experiencia sensorial y motora respecto al entorno. Desde este marco, el artículo presenta y describe los estudios acerca de la naturaleza del signo lingüístico.
